Risk and Disaster Preparedness Planning at the World Heritage Properties
Webinar for the World Heritage Managers

UNESCO Office in Almaty organizes a series of online capacity-building webinars for individuals and organisations responsible for the management of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage sites in Central Asia and Southern Caucasus. During the third webinar, Mr Rohit Jigyasu, conservation architect and risk management professional from India, gave some concrete examples of strategies and measures to prepare the World Heritage Properties to the surrounding risks and disasters.

This series is designed in cooperation with and participation of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and Advisory Bodies to the World Heritage Convention (ICCROM, ICOMOS, IUCN). Employees of all organisations involved in the management of the World Heritage sites, as well as interested representatives of authorized state bodies, research organisations, NGOs and civil society, are invited to participate in these webinars. The webinars will be held in the online format in English and Russian languages with simultaneous translation, covering a variety of topics that are relevant to the challenges faced by the region.

Speaker:
Mr Rohit Jigyasu conservation architect and risk management professional from India. Currently, he is working at ICCROM as Project Manager on Urban Heritage, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management. Served as UNESCO Chair holder professor at the Institute for Disaster Mitigation of Urban Cultural Heritage at Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto, Japan, where he was instrumental in developing and teaching International Training Course on Disaster Risk Management of Cultural Heritage. He was the President of ICOMOS-India from 2014-2018 and president of ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Risk Preparedness (ICORP) from 2010-2019. He served as the Elected Member of the Executive Committee of ICOMOS since 2011 and was its Vice President from 2017-2020. Before joining ICCROM, he has been working with several national and international organizations such as UNESCO, UNISDR, Getty Conservation Institute and World Bank for consultancy, research and training on Disaster Risk Management of Cultural Heritage.
