UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office, in cooperation with civil society, celebrities and young bloggers as well as the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education, implemented an online media campaign to reduce stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV. Hashtag #NoOneShouldBeLeftBehind integrated four different activities in social media (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube) and popular web portals.Photo-collage project #GuessWho
Project #GuessWho involved photos of diverse people. The audience was asked to guess who was a HIV positive person, migrant, etc. The idea is that you cannot guess who has HIV based on the appearances. The main message was: “No one should be left behind because of appearance, identity, illness, etc. You can only know your status by doing HIV testing.”

5 celebrities shared their thoughts about stigma, discrimination, HIV, and treatment. The videos, complemented with infographics about HIV transmission, antiretroviral therapy, etc., were shared on their social media pages.
Other videos with celebrities
These clips shared stories and lives of people living with HIV, e.g., what they encountered after knowing their status and how they were living with this knowledge. It was challenging to find heroes, who would openly share their HIV status and personal life. However, civil society partners, such as Kazakhstan Union of People Living with HIV and AFEW Kazakhstan, provided support with the identification of these people. The main idea was to show that they are ordinary people with dreams and can lead a normal life if they take antiretroviral therapy. These stories are available here:

Position of the youth
Vine-project aimed at reaching young people aged 17-25 and involved popular young bloggers in Kazakhstan. They produced 3 vine videos calling for zero discrimination. The young bloggers posted vines on their Instagram and YouTube channels.

The campaign has reached about 1 million views as of today. The videos have been rotated on a popular web-portal Namba and together with the photo-collage have been posted as a longread publication in an online analytical journal Vlast.kz.
